Alpine? In Arizona?

Yes...snowy alpine conditions do exist in Arizona...even in Maricopa County. In our own county, the terrain rises to 7,700 feet and provides the challenges of mountain snow. In winter time, many campers and hikers have been caught unprepared each year by snow storms. You don't have to travel far from Phoenix to enter higher altitude mountain areas that receive snow. Remember to always be prepared for the worst case scenario.

Qualified Alpine Rescue Mountaineers

In the past few decades, there has been a dramatic increase in the popularity of mountain recreation. Advances in equipment and skills have made it possible for people to delve further and higher into the winter backcountry

With the increased interest in adventure, there is an increased need for qualified alpine rescue mountaineers. Each year, winter backcountry users are involved in avalanche accidents, injuries, or simply becoming lost. Whether by bad choices or by simple bad luck, some recreationists will lose the battle with Mother Nature. That's why Mountain Rescue works diligently to maintain top-notch alpine rescue skills.
